Autism Training

The Autism Group is passionate about providing practical, accessible, affordable – and where possible free – autism training for people parenting, living, caring and working with those on the autistic spectrum across the East Berkshire area.

Free Parent Training

Parents are offered a series of six 2-hour training toolkits covering a range of topics and delivered in both daytime and evening slots. You can choose to attend one or more from any of the following sessions that are designed to increase understanding and help you provide a well-informed response to your children’s needs. All sessions are delivered by qualified trainers who also have children on the spectrum. Parents of young people awaiting assessment for autism are also welcome to attend.

Free parent training sessions running in 2018/19 include:

  • Young Children and autism
  • Communications
  • Sensory Sensitivity
  • Girls on the Spectrum
  • Managing Emotions
  • Adolescence

Details of all of our autumn/winter programme, along with other local autism training and support, is available here and on our calendar.

Here’s what parents have to say about our training…

“Was great to be with people who get it.”

 Training for professionals

Our fully qualified trainers have many years’ experience working in the autism field and are passionate about helping you deliver the best possible support to those you work with and care for.

Our training packages reflect both the professional and practical experience of our trainers and are designed to be interactive and encourage you to take best practice strategies into your own settings.

Courses range from our unique Autism in an Hour™ session for time pressed professionals, to a more comprehensive Focus on Autism lasting three hours.  We can also deliver a full day session which offers autism training plus Safeguarding and can be delivered to large groups. Packages can also be tailored to meet specific training needs.

Talks for non-profit making groups

As part of our commitment to increasing awareness, acceptance and support for individuals and families affected by autism, we offer four talks a year to small non-profit groups, for which we welcome a voluntary donation. Any contribution made for these talks, goes directly towards the running of our Special Interest Clubs.
